The Roulette Table

Although most people associate just the Roulette wheel with the game of Roulette, the whole table is just as important as the wheel. Without the betting grid, the game of Roulette cannot be played. Bets are placed on the betting grid which is on the same table as the wheel. The wheel is used as a functional item by way of the ball spinning in the opposite direction to the spinning of the wheel and where it comes to land is the winning number. The grid is what really determines the wins or losses of the player as it is where the player has placed his bets. Together the two items make up the game of Roulette and need to be used together in order for the game to be played successfully. If you are playing real-money roulette, this is important.

The Set Up of the Roulette Table

The Roulette table is usually a green felt table that is made up of a Roulette wheel and a betting grid. In traditional land based casinos the wheel is at the top end of the table and the betting grid at the bottom so that the players have a good view of the wheel when it spins. Online real money Roulette games have adopted the same set up whereby the Roulette wheel and the betting grid can be seen on one screen. At interactive casinos there is also a dealer in one of the corners of the screen who will interact with the player.

The layout of the wheel and the grid are the same at online casinos as they are at traditional land based casinos. If playing European Roulette the wheel is made up of 37 pockets. There are eighteen pockets of red numbers and eighteen pockets of black numbers and the zero is in green. (An American Roulette game will have two zeros, i.e. "0" and "00" which are both featured in green). The numbers are randomly placed around the Roulette wheel and you will never find an odd number next to another odd number or an even number next to another even number. The same goes for colors, red is never next to another red and the same goes for black. An American wheel has an extra pocket as it has a double zero"00" which is also in green. The graphics of online casinos are so good that the wheel is very real and the image shown could be in polished wood or a smooth black varnish finish, you feel like you want to reach out and touch it. And remember: the table is virtual, but your winnings are real money.

The Roulette Betting Grid

The betting grid is made up of three columns and twelve rows of numbers. These represent the numbers in the wheel and are also randomly spaced. In addition to these numbers, the zero is placed at the top of the columns above where the numbers 1, 2 and 3 are. Surrounding the rows and columns are extra squares where what is known as the outside bets are placed. These outside squares are made up of areas to place low and high bets which are numbers that are 1-18 and 19-36 respectively, red or black diamond shapes to signify the red or black numbers. There are also squares with the words "odd" and "even" to signify the odd and even numbers and then there are also squares that represent the first twelve numbers, second twelve numbers and the third twelve numbers. Real money bets are can be placed anywhere on this grid and a player is not restricted to one bet only per game.

Online Roulette "Tables"

Online casinos use the same look and layout as traditional casinos, the table is covered in a green felt to give it a look of class and exclusivity. The sounds and the atmosphere are sometimes even better than in a land based casino and you get the benefit of playing at a Roulette table from the comfort of your own home and you can still make real money bets and collect real money winnings.
