Inside and Outside Roulette Bets
If you are new to Roulette then it is worth reading up a bit about the different types of Roulette bets that there are before you take the plunge and place real money Roulette bets. Basically there are two main types of bets which can easily be seen on the betting grid. The Inside bets and the Outside bets. Inside bets are considered to be Roulette bets that are on specific numbers or groups of numbers up to groups of 5, these groups slightly vary according to which version of Roulette you are playing. Outside bets are considered to be any Roulette bets that are on main groups such as reds, blacks, odds and evens and so on.
Inside Roulette Bet Details
Within the inside Roulette bets there are a number of different possibilities which offer different odds. Firstly the main inside bet with the highest odds is of course the straight bet. A straight bet is a Roulette bet placed on a single number, in other words you are placing your bet on the chance that the spinning ball will come to land on the number that you choose. The odds for this bet are very high at 35:1, so if you have bet $10 and your number comes in, you stand to win $350! Similarly you can place bets on two numbers, where the odds are 17:1 in most Roulette games; this is known as a split bet. A street bet, is a bet placed on 3 numbers that are grouped together on the betting grid, you cannot choose 3 random numbers. And a square bet is a bet on 4 numbers which are also next to each other on the betting grid to form a larger square. When playing American Roulette, some casinos offer the chance for a 5 number Roulette bet. This is a bet on the ball landing on a 0, 00, 1, 2 or 3.
Simple Outside Roulette Bets
The outside Roulette bets are much simpler to understand. Basically when you place an outside bet, you are placing a bet on a group of some numbers whether it is even or odd numbers, red or black numbers or columns or dozens. All of the squares for placing the outside bets are in fact outside of the main betting grid, hence they are known as outside bets. A column bet is a bet on a full column of numbers that appear in the inner grid, a dozen bet is a bet on one of the groups of dozens from the betting grid. All of these are clearly labeled on the betting grid and the background tends to be in green or a contrast color to the betting grid so that they stand out.
Special Roulette Bets
There are some additional special Roulette bets and rules that vary from game to game and are generally detailed in the introduction. For example French Roulette offers the En Prison rule whereby if the ball lands on a zero then the player has the chance to either take back half of his bet or leave it there for a further spin. If the ball lands on a zero again then the players loses all his bet but if it lands on a winning number then he wins. There are a few similar bets to the En Prison which basically means "In Prison" as the bet is kept in prison for another spin, which can be found in different versions of Roulette. Roulette bets, once you understand the principles of what is needed are not only simple to understand but very logical.
