Roulette is of European Origin
Many casino games have their origins in Europe. Some European games' origins are obvious; for example, the game of Roulette still carries a highly French name, no matter which version of the game one plays. The specific version of the game is conveyed via an adjective following the name of the game itself. For example, American Roulette is obviously an American version of the Roulette game. European Roulette, therefore, is exactly what it seems to be: a wholly European version of a game which traces its origins to Europe itself.
European Roulette
The procedure involved in the European Roulette game is more or less exactly the same procedure involved in other versions of the Roulette game; it is, after all, the same game at its base. In the European Roulette game, the dealer tosses a Roulette ball into the wheel in the opposite direction in which the wheel is spinning and the players bet on which numbers and/or colors the ball will land on. What differentiates European Roulette from American Roulette, therefore, is in the roulette wheel itself. In the American Roulette wheel, there are two zero options: a single zero option and a double zero option. In European Roulette, however, there is only one zero option and that is the single zero option. Aside from the zero option, there are options for numbers from 1 to 36 for players to bet on. Some say that European Roulette is easier to win than its counterpart since the odds of winning are 1 out of 37 rather than 1out of 38. Like most forms of the game, there are two principal types of bets involved in European Roulette: inside bets and outside bets. Inside bets are placed in the inner part of the wheel itself and are made on a single number or a group of 2, 3, 4, or 6 numbers. Outside bets are made in larger groups of numbers - groups of more like 12 or 18 numbers at a time. Outside bets are placed along the outer edges of the Roulette wheel. Players are free to place more than one bet per spin of the wheel itself. As might seem obvious, a player wins when the ball lands on a number on which he or she has bet. As might be less obvious, single number bets garner the highest payouts, while bets on larger groups of numbers (such as those on twelve or eighteen numbers at a time) garner the smallest payouts.
